Newborn Jaundice Screening

Jaundice is a common condition in newborn babies. It appears within a few days of birth and makes a baby's skin look yellow. Most cases are mild and go away on their own, but in rare cases bilirubin levels can build up quickly and lead to brain damage. The AAP suggests newborns are screened for jaundice before leaving the hospital.
