Fruit Juice While Breastfeeding

Is it okay to give my breastfeeding baby fruit juice every once in a while?

After six months, you can offer your child small amounts of one hundred percent fruit juice fortified with vitamin C now and then—as long as the juice serves as an addition to, not a replacement for, her usual intake of breastmilk.

Juice provides only a tiny fraction of the nutrients found in breastmilk; if your baby fills up on juice, she may actually become malnourished. For babies and toddlers, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends no more than four to six ounces of a vitamin C-fortified juice per day.
