Mom's Diet

Do the foods a mother eats affect the taste of her breastmilk?

All the foods you eat will flavor your breastmilk. In fact, breastfed infants may be more accepting of new flavors and foods later because they have been exposed to lots of different flavors through breastmilk.

Only in rare cases, however, do babies object to the taste. Even when infants do resist nursing, it is difficult to predict which tastes they will dislike.

Generally, your baby may be most likely to enjoy the flavors of foods you enjoyed while pregnant. As with other food sensitivities, this is not an issue to worry about unless it frequently interferes with breastfeeding. In that case, eliminating the unpopular food is a simple solution.
