Changhai is a large general teaching hospital, with medical practice, teaching and scientific research integrated, including 26 clinical treatment departments , 10 medical technology departments,14 clinical teaching and research departments and 40 laboratories and work rooms. Besides, it has departments for rehabilitation and offering services for foreigners . Covering an area of over 200,000 square meters, it comprises ward and medical technology buildings with a floor space of 44,000 square meters , outpatient building 11,000 square meters, foreign guests ward building 3,400 square meter. Changhai Hospital has over 1,500 beds with more than 3,000 staff members, of whom about 300 are professors and associate professors, including many well-known experts who enjoy high reputations due to their pioneering work in diagnosis and treatment of hepatic tumor, development and application of home-made cardiac valves, rescue of severely burned patients, and treatment of leukemia with fetal liver transplantation. In addition, much has been achieved in the rescue and treatment of trauma patients, treatment of bone injury ,prevention and treatment of cerebrovascular diseases, endoscopic diagnosis and treatment, diagnosis ad treatment of colorectal diseases and disorders, clinical use of biologically functional materials and microwave technology, dermal surgery radiotherapy, imaging diagnosis, ophthalmological pathology, etc.

Changhai Hospital is equipped with various up-date diagnostic and therapeutic instruments, such as CT, ECT, linear accelerator, radio-frequency heating therapeutic machine ,big-power X-ray machine, color ultrasound, different endoscopes , hemodialysis machine, blood cell separator, etc.
The overall clinical and emergency capacity of the hospital is over one million patients per year. Since the commencement of the policy of reform and opening to the outside world, large numbers of foreign friends, overseas Chinese, Hong Kong and Macao compatriats have come this hospital to seek medical treatment, where they all have got good services and satisfactory care.

Every year the hospital runs over 10 classes , offers training for more than 1,00 medical students in connection with medicine faculty, nursing faculty, nurse school, professional training programs and foreign students, and receives 300 research fellows ,doctoral students and M.D. students.
