Shanghai 6th People’s Hospital, also named as the 6th People’s Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University, was founded in 1904. It is a large scale Tertiary Level Class A teaching hospital with comprehensive disciplines. The Hospital has 1766 approved beds (subsidized by the government) and 1950 open beds, 33 clinical departments and 9 technical departments.

Within the Hospital, there are Clinical School of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shanghai Institute of Micro-Surgery for Extremities, Shanghai Institute of Diabetes, International Training Center of Micro-Surgery for Extremities (Shanghai, China), Shanghai Training Center for Ultrasound Medicine, Imaging Medicine Institute of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Otolaryngology Institute of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Orthopedic Trauma Institute of Shanghai Jiaotong University and Diabetes Institute of Shanghai Jiaotong University. The Hospital is the post-graduate education base for Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shanghai TCM University and Suzhou University, with 30 authorized disciplines to train PhD-level students (49 supervisors) and 45 authorized disciplines to train master-level students (119 supervisors). The Hospital is one of the national bases for continuous medical education (CME) and undertakes about 60 national CME programs. The Hospital has three National Key Disciplines, namely orthopedics, endocrinology and metabolic diseases and cardiovascular diseases; three Shanghai Key Disciplines, namely micro-surgery in extremities, endocrine and metabolic diseases and interventional imaging. Approved by Shanghai Municipal Government, the Hospital owns two Shanghai Clinical Center, namely Shanghai Clinical Center for Orthopedic Trauma and Shanghai Clinical Center for Diabetes. Approved by the National TCM Administration, the Hospital owns National Model TCM Department in Comprehensive Hospitals. Approved by Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau, the Hospital established Shanghai First-Aid Center for Acute Trauma, Shanghai Diagnosis& Treatment Center for Infectious Diseases and Shanghai First-Aid Center for High-risk Pregnant Woman. The Hospital has 8 Key Disciplines of Shanghai Jiaotong University, namely Urologic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Ultrasound Medicine, Hematology, General Surgery, Anesthetics, Cardiovascular Diseases and Gynecology and Obstetrics.
