Shanghai Research Center of Acupuncture & Meridian, Center for short hereinafter, was founded on July, 2002. Authorized by Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, Center is a non-profit research institute with the qualification of independent legal person.

The purposes of the Center are as follows:

Considering the requirement and status of the research of acupuncture and meridian, we adopt new operation mechanism and management pattern and create an innovative development system of the basic research of acupuncture and meridian to seek the key breakthrough in the light of the national development strategy of Traditional Chinese Medicine; to promote and improve the standardized system of clinic research and emphasize the research for

application; to set up a system with autonomous intellectual property for the research and development of devices for diagnosis and treat in acupuncture and meridian and stress the expansion of the market; to promote the coupled development of research in the base of acupuncture and meridian and application of them as well, thus to ensure the leading status of our country in the field of acupuncture and meridian under the action of the synchronous advance of research and development.

The goal of the Center is to establish a base with social influence and open to countries home and overseas for the research and development of acupuncture and meridian. The main task of the base is basic research in the related field.
