The predecessor of Shanghai Stomatological Disease Centre (SSDC) is Shanghai Oral Disease Centre which was established in 1946. After its continuous development for more than 60 years, SSDC has become a regional stomatology treatment and prevention centre which provides high quality medical services for patients from different parts of China. Furthermore, SSDC also shoulders the responsibility of oral disease supervision and prevention, actively promotes the network building combining different Shanghai oral disease treatment and prevention organizations, conducts professional instructions to odontopathy treatment and prevention institutions in different areas of Shanghai, continuously perfects the oral disease prevention and control system of Shanghai which is instructed by SSDC and composed of oral disease prevention institutions in different areas of Shanghai. The system is also called “Shanghai model of oral disease prevention” by the ministry of health.
SSDC also shoulders the responsibility of education and scientific research of stomatology other than oral disease treatment and prevention. SSDC is also responsible for the medical courses of continuing education and training at city and national levels and provides clinical study and new professional trainings for oral medical staff coming from different parts of China. In recent years, SSDC strengthens its efforts in scientific research, puts great efforts in clinical and basic medical research and enhances its scientific research, development and innovation standards.
When shouldering the historic responsibility, SSDC continues with the past and opens up the future. SSDC always gives top priority to the benefits of patients and our society among its works, adheres to it working guidance of “stressing both prevention and management while with emphasis on prevention”, continuously builds the oral disease treatment and prevention system of Shanghai, gradually transfers its working focus to the construction of disease treatment and prevention system at community level, continuously elevates its professional skills and abilities to meet the needs of patients, thus makes more brilliant achievements.
