Joyce Chen, Ph.D.

Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Chen is a clinical psychologist and China-licensed counselor who has been practicing in Shanghai since 2007. After studying in the Masters program of Marriage and Family Therapy in Bethel University in California, Dr. Chen received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Women’s Marital Satisfaction from East China Normal University in Shanghai. She specializes in psychodynamic therapy for individuals and emotionally-focused therapy for couples. She currently practices as a psychodynamic marriage and family therapist affiliated with multiple university clinics and hospitals in Shanghai. Also Dr. Chen is a guest lecturer in Peking, Fudan and Tongji Universities. She has been certified by Focus on the Family (Colorado, USA) and China Association of Social Workers to lead marital workshops across China.

Dr. Chen holds certificates from the 3-year Sino-German Psychodynamic Psychotherapy training, the 2-year China American Psychoanalytic Alliance (CAPA) program, the Satir Family Therapy Professional Training and the Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) training. Dr. Chen has published research in Asia Pacific Journal of Counseling and Psychotherapy, the Chinese Mental Health Journal, the Shanghai Archives of Psychiatry and currently writes a digital column for Chinese parents with young children.
